MILAN FASHION WEEK

Spring Fashion Week usually tends to be very uninteresting to me. Bright colors, pastels, and prints are so blasé. Despite the differences in taste, I'm still keeping up with the collections. Fashion Week is such an exciting glimpse into the future, I just can't help it! I was very bored with what New York had to offer but I knew Milan would have at least one collection I'd fall in love with. And I did fall in love, not with one, but with two great collections.
Salvatore Ferragamo consistently produces beautiful collections. As I was looking through designers' latest works, there'd be a few pieces that I liked here and there, but I wasn't enjoying any collections as a whole. Ferragamo never seems to disappoint! I'm one of those people who wear black all year round so I'm thrilled by the use of a minimal color palette. I hope that come springtime people will be clad in more blacks and neutrals. It'll be so much easier on the eyes. The details in Ferragamo's garments are always superb. I enjoy the subtle prints and the repeated use of eyelets. This collection has strayed away from the typical spring prints and florals, and I really applaud that.
Dolce & Gabbana is the epitome of over the top fashion. Despite being completely ridiculous, D&G is always so well executed. There are quite obvious inspirations from Frida Kahlo in this collection and personally, I would have loved to see the models sporting unibrows! Even with that aside, her persona clearly shines through. Another thing that I was ecstatic about was the shoes. Not the big heels, but the tiny kitten heels and flats! Sky high heels are all the rage at the moment, so it was a breath of fresh air to see just the opposite. Don't get me wrong, I love a great pair of heels, but I can get tired of seeing something so many times.

I can always rely on Milan Fashion Week to tickle my fancy, but now I'm looking forward to what Paris has to bring! If you've been following me for a while, you should know who I'm looking forward to seeing ;) Out of curiosity, what collections have been your favorite so far and which ones are you excited to see?

SILVER BITS

bracelet: Urban Outfitters / rings: vintage from my mom / nail polish: Diamond Geezer by Butter London

Lately I've been in love with silver and chrome accessories. I love how clean and minimalistic they look. This bracelet is definitely a new favorite of mine. I've wanted a plain silver cuff for a while but a lot of them are really unflattering on my wrists and forearms. Anytime I get a new bracelet it's a huge deal because it will practically be the only one I ever wear.

ELLIE SAAB FW2012

I just love all the beading of the garments, and the shoes in the last photo are a must have.

SUBSTITUTION

I am head over heels in love with the Alexander Wang Kirsten Satchel, but no so much the heavy price tag attached to it. There's no way I would ever spend nearly a thousand dollars on a bag, even if it's as close to perfection as this. So, I found an alternative.

I bought this bag by She & Josh from karmaloop for about $55. It's certainly no Wang and looks rather inferior next to it, but I quite like it and I'm happy that I got such a good deal on it!

AIR FORCE FLAG

Air Force Flag sneakers by Jeremy Scott for Adidas

I honestly have no idea why I'm so in love with Scott's collection of winged sneakers. The only time I wear tennis-shoes is to the gym and these are so unlike my style. I think one reason why I love them so much is because they're the exact opposite of my personal taste. JS does a really good job with making me fall in love with things that are totally ridiculous; it's quite possible that his pieces bring out that part of me that liked to wear neon tutus and all things obnoxious when I was fourteen...

GIVENCHY FALL/WINTER 2008

My ideal winter wardrobe would look a lot like this. I can never get enough of the color black.

HAIDER ACKERMANN F/W 2011

I am head over heels in love with this collection. Each piece, accessory, and each tiny detail is amazing. I would love to get my hands on one of those sweaters/jackets for this winter!

THE ADDAMS FAMILY

Tonight I stayed in to watch the Addams family movies on ABC Family with my kitty cat. The Addams' are definitely a huge style inspiration, I mean how could they not be? Black and white stripes and layers upon layers of black are so simple but so perfect. This winter you can expect a very monochromatic wardrobe from me, but that's nothing new ;)

BLACK MILK CLOTHING

I've recently fallen in love with Black Milk Clothing, especially their prints. The clothing is definitely more suitable for warmer weather and a little bit on the pricier side, but I really want to get my hands on one of the bathing suits for the summer. Maybe I'll befriend someone with a pool before then so I'll have a reason to buy one...

GARETH PUGH S/S 2012

Some of my favorite pieces from Gareth Pugh's new spring collection. I'm a total sucker for draped and flowing fabrics, especially when they're black, and these are to die for. The geometric elements of Pugh's pieces are always exciting to me. I can't help but wonder how he'll incorporate shapes and silhouettes into his pieces and I love that he always keeps me guessing. His work is surprising, yet remains consistent.
